We got up bright and early..well..except for the bright part. It was cloudy, rainy, and cold in Seattle. Go figure, eh? We showered, packed up, then went for the hotel's almost-but-not-quite-completely-unglamorous continental breakfast.
Then we hopped on the plane for the jump to Maui! All four iPads came out and many movies, games, and books were read. Russell began playing with GarageBand and actually recreated one of his island songs! Sweet! Perhaps he'll learn how to use the software and can then teach Damian!
Five hours later...we landed in Kahului! We got our Mustang convertible and then first stop...CostCo! Our Lei Ceremony of sorts took place in the parking lot. Everyone got their flower and kisses and "Aloha"s.
Russ bought a bunch of groceries then had to figure out how to get it all in a little car, on top of and around 4 people's luggage and the four people themselves...
Success! And not an inch, or breathing room, to spare!
After a bit of unpacking, we jumped into the Mustang and headed out for...Little Beach! We helped Mom Edna over the lava wall and there was the mass of hippies in various stages of undress. The drummers were drumming, a small bonfire was burning, the sunset was in motion. We staked out a section of sand...
...we drank some of our wine to toast the beach, sunset, and each other. Russ and Damian quickly took the opportunity to leap into the water and swim for a few minutes. Then we dried off, re-dressed, watched the people, listened to the drums, and waited for dark.
Damian "Checks In" on Facebook and Google+ . Interestingly "Little Beach" is
a Recognized Location!
Russ takes off to grab a few sunset pictures. He has a couple of "standard" locations he shoots every time we're here. (I love saying that...)
Then it got dark enough and the drummers amped up the tempo...and then the fire dancers, um, fired up their toys and put on a show!
All too soon, it was dark (no moon tonight) and cold. We were still wiped out from the trip and time changes. So we shuffled back to the cliff...
Mahalo, Anthony!
...where a fellow named Anthony was stationed with his torch to help folks find their way down the wall (we had brought flashlights for just that thing...) We helped another guy locate his daughter's lost pink Croc shoes. Then drove back to the resort.
We quickly changed into our regular swim suits, and lounged in the hot tub for a while, chatting with a young couple there.
Finally, exhausted and now super-relaxed, we padded back to the room, showered off the day, then poured ourselves into our beds.
---Aloha!
