Christmas 2010

It's Christmas time in the Hart household.  That means a mixed bag of interesting stories.  First, the house is still a disaster.  The kitchen, ex-laundry room, and back porch are all under construction.  All the dishes are scattered around the house, tile-dust is everywhere.  It's a mess.  Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

But it's Christmas Day so let's see what went on!  Russ got up early and went out to get his Mom and bring her over.  Then he made breakfast.  It was supposed to snow and sure enough it did!  But, it only snowed through breakfast and presents...then it stopped.  In my book, that's perfect.

After breakfast, we went to the living room for the gift opening ceremony.  Once again, Russ played Santa's Elf and--although it was a bit more reserved than other years--we still had a nice haul.

Here's some photos...

...and a set of Mouse Ears.  Why?  Oh yea!  He's Going to Disney!

More gifts were exchanged.  Afterward, we all cleaned up and played with our toys.  Then Russ made lunch.  More playing.

Next up, The Three Of We headed out to visit with Garry's folks. This was a big deal.  When Garry came out of the closet, his mom and dad didn't react well.  But his Gramma did.  We love his Gramma.  So when we found out she was going to be at the folks, Garry called to say that The Three of We were coming out to see Gramma.  So we did.

Stories are Exchanged.  There Is Much Laughter.

Finally it was time to go as the weather predicted a ton of snow.  We went out to Garry's Dad's "Shed of Solitude" for a few minutes of visiting.  In a touching show of emotion, Dad grabbed Garry and says, "I'm proud of my son and I love him!"  It was a HUGE moment.

Then The Three Of We climbed in the car and drove home.  It was a great Christmas, sharing our love and laughter with our dear, dear friends.  We can't wait to see what adventures await...

New York For Christmas!

So back in October, Garry asked, "Can we go to NYC and see the Christmas lights?"

My first question was:  Who are you and what have you done with my BoyToy?  Mr. Goth doesn't do Christmas lights!

But we set a travel date for December 18th and off we went.  We took Granison with us, but Anthony didn't want to do.  <sigh>  So, after turning off the internet and packing all the phones in the car so that Anthony wouldn't spend all day calling his girlfriends or playing "Rap Master" on the internet, The Three of We and Granison took off to NYC.

The trip has multiple themes.  One turned out to be "50 miles away."  We left at 6am and Russ wanted to go to a particular location along the way for breakfast.  We passed rest stop after rest stop.  Finally I asked, "Where is this place?"   He answered, "Oh, it's at the next exit."  So we went to the next exit...then the next...then the next.  Then I asked, "What is the exact exit number?"   He said, "33."  I looked and we were at at exit 83.  A quick set of math revealed that "the next exit" was 50 miles away!  At that point any time anyone asked "how far to....<wherever>?"  The answer was "50 miles."

The next theme was "Russell on the iPad."  You may remember a previous post about his manic use of the thing that he can see no use for....  Well, on this trip, he had it on for the entire trip up to NYC and most of the trip back (when he wasn't sleeping)....(and even then he frequently was asleep with the iPad turned on on his lap.)

The third theme was "Granison's Butt in NYC."  For reasons we cannot fathom, Gran has adopted the super-stupid "belt-at-mid-thighs" look.  Honestly, it does not look good, guys.  Never.  No one looks good in that moronic attire!  We're three gay guys...we know what's attractive.  And that ain't it!  Anyway, I told Granison that if he was gonna stick it out there, I was gonna photograph it.   He did anyway...and so I did.  Here's a small collage of Granison's ass:

So we got on the ferry--after several wrong turns--and arrived at Battery Park.  On the subway, The Three of We went on to Times Square to our Broadway show, while Gran got off the train and went his own way.

Garry Observes:  "It's not Hawaiian Water"

Granison prepares to depart on his own NYC adventure.

Then we met at Toys R Us in Times Square, went off to dinner, then walked to Rockerfeller Center to see the lights.

I have lots to say, but the main thing is: OMG!  There were sooooo many people---I should say: idiots---out that day.  My estimate is 7 MILLION people were out that day.  It took us 20 minutes to get to the restroom inside Toys R Us...then 30 minutes standing in line just to get to the exit doors!

Yes, that's the exit...and there's 3000 people blocking my path.

Definitely not the place to be on the Saturday before Christmas!

Outside, of course, there were all sorts of hucksters trying to turn a buck off the tourists.  We saw about 12 Spongebobs, 6 Elmos, 8 Mickey Mouses, a couple of Statues of Liberty.  All of them performing in some fashion for whatever money they could beg out of the rest of us.  Here's two that I managed to photograph while waiting.

To be fair, this duo was advertising for the Cirque du Soliel show: Wintuk

After the show, which Granison did not attend (and I'll be talking more about later), we all met up and went to see the lights.  It was crazy crowded...like in Toys R Us, only mutiplied by about 100 times.  What I don't understand is:
  • There's 7 million people out here.  WHY would you bring a baby in a stroller?  And then you just block the walkways for the rest of us who are trying to get somewhere.
  • Your digital camera holds 6000 pictures.  When you take a photo you really do not need to stop--thus blocking all traffic--to examine all your pictures and decide which ones to keep or delete!  Do it at home, idiot!

Afterwards, we headed back to the ferry to go home.  We had great fun listening to the announcements, particuarly:

"Please make sure you have all your personal possessions before leaving the ferry."  hahaha!

To be able to stay awake, we had some Starbucks.

And we made it home safely.

But...the real fun of the trip was that The Three of We went to see a Broadway show.  Not just any show..hehe...but...

Hehe..yup!  We went to see the Pee Wee Herman show!

It was great.  Very funny, and very much like the Saturday morning show that we all know.  You may not like Pee Wee (mostly because you've never taken the time to understand the point of Pee Wee) but as a stage show, I must say that the technical / special effects were flawless (with one small mistake that was just a fluke).  Knowing the show and the characters I found myself surprised that I wasn't thinking of Chairy or Globy, or Mr. Window as puppets but as actual actors on the stage!

Honestly, it was brilliant and funny, and a triumph for Pee Wee.  Welcome back, and I hope you have a long, successful run!

Happy 31st to Garry

December 14th is Garry's birthday.  This year was #31.  He wanted sushi, so we went to a nearby place and took Granison with us.  Gran wasn't thrilled with the idea, but he went along anyway...and found out it wasn't so bad.  Cory came along and we all had a great time.

Here's some pics.

And here's a bit of video of Granison catching shrimp that was thrown through the air toward his mouth.  The restaurant was dim, so the video isn't great.  Sorry..

All-in-all, we had a good night.  Lots of Saki was consumed (at least by Damian and Cory) and we hope that our Gar-Bear had a good birthday.

Happy Birthday, baby!

Preparing for Christmas

Well, things are--in a bizarre sort of fashion--calm around here.  We're all getting ready for Christmas.  So it's mostly quiet as we prepare.

Except for Russ working on the kitchen...

You're Not That Important and You're Not That Popular....

...but you clearly are that pathetic.

Yes...it's rant time!

Last night, The Three of We went to the Hippodrome to see a touring Broadway musical, "Rock of Ages" which was quite fun.  Not great...not earth-shattering...but fun.  Particularly when they stopped taking themselves so seriously.  (Sadly that didn't happen until the middle of the second act.)

However, the point of this entire (if brief) tirade is this:

The instant the intermission started -- and I mean the very instant, as the house lights had not even come up yet -- the auditorium lit up with the lights of no less than 35 cellphones powered on!

Really!?  Are you people so stupid and ridiculous that you can't live without your iNipples for the length of one theatre performance?

Christmas Decorations and Other Stuff

The day after Thanksgiving we take down the few Thanksgiving and Autumn decorations we have and put up the Christmas ones.  We're not a greedy-ass department store, so we keep our decorations in line with the actual holiday of the moment.

The Living Room's Christmas Tree

The Dining Room's Tree

Russ's Winterland Village on the Mantle

The Chris-Moose and the Decorated Stairway

Santa on the Table

Having finished the lanai over the summer, Russ has turned his attention to the kitchen.  He's ordered new appliances, new shelves, new floor tiles.  He's started to rip every thing up.  It's a mess right now...

We also took some time off to visit some friends.  They have two daughters...one around 8 and the other about 3.  The 3-year-old, so desperate to be part of the activities, eventually hauled out her fingernail painting kit and her mom if she wanted her toenails painted.  Mom, trying to be sweet and tolerant, explained that, "No, the grown-ups are talking and we don't need our toes painted."

At which point, I spoke up and announced, "Oh no!  In fact, I am in dire need of a new toenail painting!"

So Kate helped me remove my socks and gave me a beauuuuutiful paint job.  Then Garry got his done.  Then Russ!  Then she did us all a second coat!  We boys had the most awesome toes in the gym the next day!  But more to the point, it made Kate's night and she's talked about it for days afterward!  Go us!

Oh!  I nearly forgot this piece of Christmas treasure!  Last year, we let Garry decorate in a Nightmare Before Christmas style and he created this little treasure partially inspired by a funny Mr. Bean episode.  Yes, it's the manger scene being attacked by skeletal dinosaurs!

One of them is carting away the baby for later snacking!

And finally, our tree topper.  A couple of years ago, Russ took a standard angel topper, a hula boy doll from Hawaii, and a set of fiber-optic wings, and created our fabulous gay hula boy angel in a lava-inspired gown!

More Flash Playing

So I've been playing with Flash, trying to come to terms with trig (not my forte at all) and low-tech particle effects. One of the things I wanted to work on has been creating / faking a 3D effect. So after much toying and experimenting (remember, math is not my thing), I created this. It's not great...but not bad!
