We went to the location at crazy-early in the morning...and it the weather was overcast and COLD ! But when the time came to run I stripped down to my workout clothes and took off!
Stretching Beforehand...
At the Finish Line.
Even as cold as it was, I did good. I started off near the "back" of the "front pack." During the run, I passed many other runners throughout the course, but only about 3 passed by me. Of course, it was all done on individual timers, so I was really just running against myself. Still, some of official results were:
- They had a bit over 1000 runners.
- The winner had a run-time of 18:15.
- I was #45 with a run-time of 22:02 !
- Team SAIC (my team) won the "fastest group" award.
- Given that I was #46, with "only" 4 min between me and the winner, we thought I had a good shot at winning my age bracket (40-49) <sigh>. But I didn't. The guy who took that had a time of 21:20 or so, so I was beat out by less than a minute. So I probably took 2nd place, 3rd for sure.
Plus, normally at the gym I run on the treadmill for 30 minutes and only cover about 3.25 miles. So this was about the same distance but 8 minutes faster! If a 5K is 3.1 miles and I did it in 22 min, that's (roughly) a mile in 7min and 20 seconds (if my math is working...) That's better than I ran when I was in the Navy!
Not bad for an old timer!
