Today we got up, had another amazing Russ breakfast, then drove down to Maui stables for the horse ride! We were assigned horses and then followed the leader to the top of a ridge overlooking the big waterfall here in Hana. We took a break, then rode back.
John-John asked each of us in the entire party (about 12) our riding expertise and--oddly--Damian had the most...and that was after 30 years of not-riding! So Garry was assigned a very, very mild horse. Russ's was ok, mine (whom I called "Little Girl") I was told "Liked to go!"
Yes she did. I purposefully kept her to the back of the line because she always had her nose right in the tail of the horse in front and I kept having to pull her back...pull her back...slow her down. She didn't like it at first, but after a while we established communication and she knew what to do.
The ride was nice, a bit steep and rocky in places so in those situations I'd giver her her head and let her find her path. She would...usually ending up with her nose in the tail of the horse in front...

It was about a 3 hour tour and when done we were right at the entrance to the Oheo Gulch park and Russ had heard of a "little known" hike that we could take that would lead us to a waterfall and pool that no tourists ever went to because it was so unknown. (Sounds like a horror flick set up.) So we went and, sadly, about 1/3 the way there we came across a sign saying the trail was closed due to a rock-slide. Ah well...poor Russ.

So we headed down to the actual pools of the Gulch, but the water was low and at that point in the day was overrun by tourists. So we just turned around, came home, and had dinner. Another Russell work of art from his amazingly small kitchen.

Then it was wine and sunset time.
...and the day ended. We slept.
