Today was our first full day on the island of Oahu. We decided to sleep in a bit late so folks could recover from the hectic brouhaha of the flights. Then we got up, walked to Moose McGillicuddy for breakfast. They had a special where every second breakfast was free! Six of us eating, only pay for three breakfasts? We were there! Huge portions, very yummy.
Then we hopped in the van and headed out. Our first stop was Diamondhead to walk to the top and see the glory. Here we are about, oh, one-quarter of the way up.
Close up!
Unfortunately, Dad Garry’s ankle started to swell up, so we decided to play it safe and not try to go to the top. We turned around and worked our way back to the bottom. We decided that it was still worthy of a Shave Ice reward!
So, with heavy walking on the nix, we thought perhaps we’d just go to Hanauma Bay and splash in the water and look at the fishes. Plus, perhaps the cool water would reduce some of the swelling on Dad’s ankle. As we waited to get in, we saw a couple of Mongoose frolicking in the sun.
Then into the water we went! We swam, we sat, we snorkeled. Russ went searching for fish with the underwater camera. Mom Edna decided she wasn’t going to snorkel, she’d just swim around. Garry mostly lay on his towel and napped.
Out of the blue, blue water, Mom Edna returns with a snorkel mask in hand. ”So I changed my mind!” she said. ”Wanna make something of it?”
After we’d had enough of that we left the Bay and went to see the blowhole.
Then we drove on to CostCo where Russ bought enough food to feed an army of 80 for a month. Even though it’s just six of us, for 4 more days. Oh well!
We then returned to Waikiki. I dropped Dad Garry, our Garry, and Russ off at the Harley Davidson rental store! Our Garry had called ahead and reserved a “hawg” for Dad Garry and Mom Lisa to use to ride around the island! Everyone was thrilled!
Finally we reassembled back at the room where we had chips, drinks, fruit. Then folks took off and wandered around the neighborhood a bit. After that it was coffee, dessert, and sleepy-time!
Oh—and remember how younger Garry was just sleeping on the beach? Yeah….here’s the result...
It Looks Like He's Wearing Red Stockings!
ALOHA!
